Omni-Tract Surgical Profile Omni-Tract Surgical, a Division of Minnesota Scientific Incorporated, designs, develops and manufactures table-mounted retractor systems to meet all of your exposure requirements. Operating room professionals worldwide have relied on Omni-Tract for more than 30 years for innovation in surgical retractors. Minnesota Scientific was founded in 1971 by Bruce LeVahn in response to a Cardio-Thoracic Surgeon he met and began working with earlier in his career as an engineer. Dr. Kenneth Jensen expressed the need for exposure of the Internal Mammary Artery (IMA) to a team of engineers Bruce was working with at the time. This association led to the development of the Poly-Tract retractor, the first of Minnesota Scientific's products. Because of the retractors robust design, its application to Bariatric surgery quickly became apparent. By 1977, the Poly-Tract retractor system was becoming widely accepted as the system for gaining exposure during surgery on the morbidly obese patient. During the early eighties, Bruce LeVahn worked with Dr. Robert Anderson of Hennepin County Medical Center in Minneapolis, Minnesota to develop the WISHBONE table-mounted retractor system for kidney transplant surgery. This retractor was introduced at the 1983 American College of Surgeons meeting in Atlanta and proved to be a success. Through meeting Dr. Ronald Stoney, Professor of Surgery at the University of California, San Francisco, the process of adapting the WISHBONE concept to abdominal vascular surgery was initiated. Also as a result of the 1983 ACS meeting, Minnesota Scientific established it's first European Representative in the Netherlands. From 1983-1986 the foundation of Minnesota Scientific's International Representation was built and has continued to evolve since that time. At present, Omni-Tract Surgical is the clear international leader of table-mounted retractor systems and is represented by forty-three distributors in more than fifty countries. By the late eighties Minnesota Scientific, Inc. was known worldwide as the Omni-Tract Retractor Company. The name "Omni-Tract", "Omni" meaning all and "Tract" referring to retraction, represents all directions of retraction for surgical exposure. In 1988, the name of the company was changed to Omni-Tract Surgical, a Division of Minnesota Scientific, Inc. The Omni-Tract System has evolved into the current FastSystem product line offering retractor systems for various general, vascular and urological procedures and represents the state of the art for table mounted retractor designs. Omni-Tract has continued to add meaning to it's name with the design and development of products for other specialties and procedures. The Omni-LapoTract® for example, is a table mounted scope and instrument holder for various laparoscopic procedures. The Spine-Tract® product line improved exposure opportunities for neurological and orthopaedic specialties with systems for spinal procedures. In September of 2000, the Arthro-Tract® Hip System for hip arthroplasty procedures was introduced, offering additional exposure assistance for the orthopaedic surgeon. Developing additional products that improve exposure and lessen Operating Room manpower requirements is important to Omni-Tract Surgical. Our name is our guarantee that every product is of the highest quality. Minnesota Scientific, Inc. became ISO 9000 Certified, obtaining the European CE mark in March of 1997 as a commitment to producing quality products. Omni-Tract Surgical began with one person's goal to help a colleague improve his surgical exposure. That goal has become the mission of Omni-Tract Surgical and its employees and has led the company to where it is today and where it will be in the future.
