VASCUTEK, a TERUMO Company Vascutek is one of the world's leading designers, manufacturers and marketers of vascular products for the treatment of cardiovascular disease. Based at a custom built facility in Scotland, Vascutek uses innovative vascular technologies to develop products which address the needs of cardiovascular and vascular surgeons throughout the world. The Company markets a wide range of knitted and woven sealed and unsealed polyester vascular prosthetic grafts for the treatment of diseased and damaged arteries. It uses precise knitting and weaving processes and seals the grafts by impregnation with a specially modified gelatin, eliminating the need for preclotting.
A novel biomaterial has been created, featuring a surface of
fluoropolymer molecules on a macroporous matrix. This produces
a low thrombogenicity prosthesis with excellent healing and handling.
In 2000, the first gelatin sealed ePTFE graft was introduced.
Since the formation of the original company in 1982, Vascutek has grown significantly and its sales success has been recognised by the Governments of UK and Japan. Vascutek has been complying for many years with the Government Registration Authorities and was one of the first medical device manufacturers to affix the CE mark to its products.
